Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

So, as anyone who knows me, I am a strange cat.  The PS3 version of TR was on sale for $39.99, so I picked it up....  And you know what? I thought it totally sucked.  I played about 10 mins of it, pulled it out, and went back to Bioshock:Infinite.

Steam had a sale, so I bough TR for 9.99 on my 2 year old laptop (when I bought the laptop, it was "high end")  TR played like crap.  It looked a "little" better than the PS3 version but the frame-rate was sluggish.

So then about 2 months ago, I went to a "beat-up" Sears (they are all beat-up) and found a PS4.  Manager said it is impossible to sell these things ("WTF?!") so gave me a deal (I told him I was military so he sold it to me without tax)

So, shiny new box...what do I play on it?...okay, later I will talk about AC4 and Outlast, Don't Starve, Flower, and Resogun.. but, tonight, Let's talk TR:DE.

When I played TR for the PS3 I was not getting into it (maybe that was the fault of a bottle of Vodka).  I did not like it.  The graphical errors were distracting and the whole image looked like it was touched up with a healthy layer of poop.

My expectations were not high when I saw the PS4 DE version on sale for sale for $39.99 (and had the Navy Exchange (NEX) price match (no tax!))  I dropped the disk in, and....HS!  It looked fantastic!

I played the PS3 version about 6 months ago, and even relying on my hopped-clogged memory, this version look amazing.  I could compare it to the PC version I played about 2 months ago.  It look substantially better AND played at 1080p with a much higher frame-rate.

So, to the PC-haters:  Yes, PCs will always look better, but for $399 (way less than I mid-range graphics card) I have a complete system that right now plays a games better than a $399 graphics card in a PC.  And from here it will only get better.  Did you see "Last of Us?"  Yes, looks last gen... but OMG, only slightly so and that is on hardware that is 8 years old!  Could you imagine playing any PC game with an 8 year old video card?!

My point... if you have a PS4 and can find TR:DE _on sale_ for less $40, buy it.  You will be blown away by how good the PS4 looks right now!

Who is the old man?

So, I am staring a new blog based on the fact I am a quadragenarian and a heavy gamer.  For all you millennials out there...that means I am 40 years old and I have been gaming about about twice as long as you! Which means I am almost the age of your Dad and I am just as cranky. It also means I did not have to look up what "cantankerous" means...:)

Anyway...come here to learn what does not suck by someone who has been doing this twice as long as you.
